The Wisdom of the Stupid Cross
Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 1:18 – 2:5 | Preacher: David Dickenson | Series: Holy Week 2018
The supposedly “stupid” message of the cross flips the world’s “wisdom” on its head by revealing God’s wise plan to save those who believe through Christ crucified. Paul illustrates this reality by the world’s reaction to the cross (1:18-25), the church as those who have accepted the “stupid” message (1:26-31), and Paul as the herald of the “stupid” message (2:1-5). This new-found wisdom of Christ crucified, a message of shame, demands that leaders humbly serve like Christ and that the church submits to Christ alone as Master, with leaders as God’s servants on their behalf.
