Hearing there is food again in Israel, Naomi decided to leave Moab and return to her homeland with her daughters-in-law (Ruth 1:6-9); widowed, broken, and struggling with bitterness, Naomi nevertheless encouraged Orpah and Ruth to seek happiness by returning to Moab (Ruth 1:10-14); Ruth alone commits herself to abiding with Naomi, regardless of the consequences (Ruth 1:15-18).
